My Story: From Melbourne Med School to Managed Accounts and FinTech

Andrew shares some of his journey that has helped shape him with the wisdom, foresight and authenticity to succeed in business and live a fulfilling life.

After graduating in 1987 as school capital of St Kevins, Toorak with academic results that placed him in the top 0.05% of the state, it was clear that Andrew Ludekens was naturally aligned to leadership, and high output thinking.

Andrew chose medicine as the path that would best allow him to exercise his abilities, while imparting a high degree of value on others.

Andrew graduated medical school from the University of Melbourne in 1993, which incorporated a placement in Oxford, England. In the years following graduation, he pioneered the specialisation of specialist surgical assistant, paving the way for many other med students to move into this role. Over the years he honed and refined his specialisation into orthopaedic surgery, general surgery and plastic/reconstructive surgery.

In the early 2000s, Andrew expanded his attention to incorporate licensed and structured investments, corporate and board appointments and property. Andrew has served on the boards of prominent listed public companies and licensed investment companies across a wide range of industries and verticals.

Andrew experienced and navigated first hand, the Global Financial Crisis from 2007 to 2009, suffering significant investment losses personally, and also as a steward of other investors' capital. Like most of the financial world during that time, it was an extremely tumultuous and traumatic period.

Following the GFC, a period of recovery and rebuilding ensued, both personally and professionally for Andrew. Some of the strongest and most present aspects of his wisdom, outlook and approach today were borne out of these challenging years.

Andrew now draws on experience from a 3-decade career as a leading orthopaedic surgical assistant, integrated with 20 years of professional investment, business growth and optimisation.

The elation and fulfilment of success, the stark reality of failure on the journey of business and life - all of which culminate into a portfolio of wisdom, foresight and authenticity that would be near-impossible to replicate.

Andrew’s focus today is on nurturing and growing a selected portfolio of integrated wealth-tech and personal financial wellness products, while continuing to impart his knowledge, experience and wisdom by offering bespoke corporate consultancy services, board advisory participation and speaking engagements.

Andrew also remains heavily dedicated to his medical profession and is in surgery every week, helping patients to walk and move again, which continues to be one of his greatest sources of fulfilment.
